Brody Powell is a licensed professional counselor who has over 10,000 hours behind the closed doors of counseling sessions.
His personal story began after his “golden child” mask couldn’t defeat the depression that haunted him when he started college. Outwardly, things looked perfect as Brody was a worship leader at his church and a social kid in college, but silent depression led to secret pornography addiction, pornography addiction led to hypocrisy, and hypocrisy led to him being on top of a building with his legs dangling off contemplating suicide.
Since then, Brody has helped over 214 people out of suicidal ideation (and the number continues to grow) and has shared and inspired thousands through his vulnerable story in various settings such as high schools, colleges, churches, and camps.
His therapeutic specialty is “Caring for Caregivers:” helping those who put others’ needs above their own so much that they tend to neglect themselves in the process. As an educator for 5 years, he saw how important it was to take care of the education staff and incorporated a successful Staff Wellness program that reduced burnout, reduced child behaviors significantly, and increased employee retention in the school. His visionary switch as a mental health professional happened when he proactively sought to water the grass of caregivers (educators, parents, etc.) to help prevent the fires of child misbehaviors.
He believes that as he touches the lives of caregivers, the ripple effect extends into each person they come into contact with. Doctors may have thousands of patients, teachers can see multiple hundred children per day, and parents have the impact of generations. Each person that Brody influences cannot help but positively impact their community around them.
